The Horton Vision Crossbow is the small, compact and incredibly quiet crossbow that made waves when it was first introduced. Horton’s reissue has the same features as the original, in fact, it seems as though they have not changed a thing but this is not something to complain about. Featuring a modern design and a subtle balance of strength and power, this is one of the best crossbows available on the market today.

Great Hunting Crossbow

The Vision 175 is a top of the line hunting crossbow, and this crossbow deleivers on its promises  on developing a performance hunting crossbow. For one, it is small and portable. Its lightweight makes it easy to carry long distances, making it perfect for hunting or triathlon use. It is very well balanced, fast, and surprisingly powerful for such a small crossbow.

Horton advertises it as being “whisper quiet” and that is indeed an apt description. Its mechanism is nearly silent and the only sound you will hear is the thud of the arrow hitting its target.

This Horton Crossbow has an axle-to-axle width of 16 1/4 inches, a length of 35 3/8-inches and a weight of only 8.3 pounds. It has a 13-inch power stroke, a draw weight of 175 and its arrows fly at a slick 300 feet per second.

High Qaulity Construction

The strong aluminum barrel coupled with the reverse draw limb make for a well-balanced, incredibly precise hunting crossbow. Additional features include a dual sided safety design and a Monte Carlo cheek rest that can be set to either side, to accommodate right and left-handed shooters.

While this Horton Crossbow precision, balance and strength certainly make this a good bow for archery, it has been built with the hunter in mind. Its near silence, quick shot and reverse draw limb make it ideal for tracking prey unnoticed and its power ensures a clean shot.

Compact and lightweight design

Its compact design makes it easy to carry over long distances and it will not hinder a hunter who has to move quickly through dense brush or forest. This is also a good model for someone just learning the ins and outs of the crossbow, because it is lightweight and easy to use, or for someone who is small and has trouble holding up one of the many bows that is overly weighted toward the front.

Horton Vision Crossbow Combo Package

Along with the crossbow itself, the Horton Vision Crossbow package includes a 4×32 lighted reticle scope, a Hunter-Elite three-arrow quiver, a cocking sled and three arrows with practice points.

Although the bow comes with everything you need to get started, recommended arrows include the Horton Bone Collector 20 inch arrows with vanes and the Horton Lightning Strike aluminum crossbow arrows. Horton also sells a variety of carrying cases and arrow accessories, as well as necessary maintenance items such as rail lube, string wax and replacement strings.

Horton Vision 175 Crossbow Comparison

It is interesting to compare this model to the Barnett Predator Crossbow, a similar hunting bow. While they are both of similar size and weight, the Predator has the slightly faster speed at 375 feet per second, as well as a larger power stroke of 16 inches. It is also more than one hundred dollars cheaper.

However, what the Barnett Predator gains in speed and power, it lacks in subtlety. It is not quite as quiet as the Vision 175, nor is it as sleek and compact. In addition, the trigger may have a tendency to creep, while the Horton Vision is perfectly smooth and balanced.

In the end, it comes down to the preference of the shooter. The lower price and extra power of the Barnett Predator 18035 are tempting for many people. Others are willing to pay for the stealth and precision of the Horton Vision 175 Crossbow.

  1. I was at a Bass Pro shop recently and was talking to a Horton rep about the Vision crossbow. He had one of the Bass Pro staff setup the Vision for my son and I to test out. I already own a Horton Legend II and having taken a few deer with it found the Vision to be far better balanced (not forward heavy as stated). The Vision also has a smoother and lighter trigger pull and is extremely quiet. My son and I also noted there was no jump or recoil of the bow limbs after the shot. My hunting buddy shoots an Excaliber and though lighter than my Legend II it is noisier. If Horton could lower the price the Vision would out sell all the competion with this model.
